Victory for Maryland: Slots opponents lose lawsuit, are ordered to pay court costs

Fred Puddester, Chair, For Maryland For Our Future Praises Court Ruling Allowing Slots Referendum To Go Forward Virtually Unchanged

“We are pleased that the Maryland Court of Appeals threw out the attempt by anti-slots activists to block the November referendum on slots.  We consider their approval of the ballot language with only a one-word change a victory.

Now, it’s time to let the people decide.  And we believe Marylanders will support a referendum that invests $660 million in education – rather than the huge tax hikes or deep cuts to education supported by slots opponents.”

In dismissing the anti-slots activists appeal – after the Circuit Court dismissed the activists’ attempt to block the election and largely refused their arguments seeking to rewrite the ballot language – the Maryland Court of Appeals ordered: “costs to be paid by appellants.”
